The Chestnut Tree is my 16th CD release of original folk/blues singer/songwriter material from Flyin' Cloud Records (www.flyincloudrecords.com). Flyin' Cloud is a small indie label in NC founded by one of Charlie Poole's nephews, Doug Rorrer. They have released many bluegrass, old time and folk recordings since the 80's.
This CD includes 17 new songs recorded in Greensboro, NC in the studio of Jim Ritchey (a Texas singer/songwriter who had one of his songs, Tennessee Bottle, recorded by Kenny Rogers on his Gambler album). Three of the tracks are spoken word poems.
These are all new recordings of new material. Scott Walker is on cello and fiddle, Sam Frazier on lead guitar, Renee Mendoza on vocals, Keith Buckner on banjo and bass, Dakota Joe on vocals, David "Driveway" Moore on blues harp, Bill Payne on dobro and I'm playing a 1968 Martin D-28 and singing.
Folk art paintings by Mike Spainhour and photography by Liz Larson are included in the liner notes. This really cool web site provided by Elemental Maze (www.elementalmaze.com).
